# I will Stay Away From Copilot (For Now)
When coding with Copilot, you can write programs without needing to study or think deeply before fully understanding the detials. If you rely on it too much, I believe it can diminish your abilities as a programmer, particularly your capacity to thoroughly understand and effectively modify product code.Coding with Copilot is akin to taking an exam with cheat sheets, and I see two main issues with this approach:
- **First**, it can devalue your worth as a programmer. If all you need is a quick fix, then there's no need for you specifically to be the programmer.
- **Second**, it can diminish the joy of being a programmer. One of the significant reasons programmers enjoy their profession is the frequent opportunities for intellectual satisfaction. Coding with Copilot significantly reduces the need for learning. Since people tend to avoid unnecessary effort, they might choose not to learn if they don't have to. In the long run, this could lead many programmers down a less intellectually satisfying and unhappy path.
Of course, if AI evolves to autonomously and efficiently modify complex product programs quickly and accurately at low cost, all programmers would become unemployed. My discussion assumes that such a future has not yet arrived. For now, I plan to minimize my use of Copilot.
